Meet Our Mayor – Kim Learnard | Peachtree City Moms

It’s an honor to introduce this week’s Meet A Mom, Peachtree City’s New Mayor, Kim Learnard! I was thrilled to have the opportunity to meet Mrs. Learnard as part of The Fabulous Women of Fayette feature in Fayette County Lifestyle Magazine. Below, Kim shares her transition into the Mayoral role, some of her goals as the Mayor of Peachtree City, and how Peachtree City Moms can get involved to help continue her efforts in improving the beauty, charm, and growth of Peachtree City.

Congratulations on your recent accomplishment of becoming Mayor of our wonderful city! How did you arrive to this esteemed position?  I had previously served on City Council for eight years, from 2010-2017. I truly loved knowing what was going on in our city and being in a position to serve our citizens. Having raised three children in Peachtree City, I had the support of fellow parents and friends from years of sports, Scouts, schools, church, and clubs. I am truly grateful to be here.

Can you share some of your goals for Peachtree City?  Roads, Recreation and Redevelopment! We all feel the effects of growing traffic congestion on Highway 54West. It is imperative for Peachtree City to establish good relationships with Coweta officials as well as GDOT if we’re going to find long-term solutions, and I am striving to make inroads. This year, as part of our city budget process, we will discuss allocating funds to improve Riley Field, soccer and baseball facilities at the PAC, and more. Finally, we need to focus on updating our undeveloped areas with the kinds of nightlife and outdoor gathering spaces that attract young families.

Have there been any surprises or unexpected challenges in your first months as Mayor?  Our City Manager retired at the end of April, leaving big shoes to fill. City Council has hired an Interim City Manager and started the process of hiring the position long-term. This will be one of the biggest decisions this Council will make.

Are there any issues you would like to enlist help from Peachtree City Moms now or in the future?  Peachtree City Moms are in the know especially when it comes to our parks and play areas. Feedback on the use, features, condition, and connectivity of these spaces is always welcome. I appreciate the Peachtree City Moms interviews so I know what Mom-owned businesses to patronize – keep up the great work!

What do you love most about Peachtree City and surrounding areas? I relish the many local and independent restaurants Peachtree City has to offer. My husband and I appreciate our short golf cart ride to enjoy the wonderful concerts at The Fred. And of course, Peachtree City’s July 4th festivities are absolutely second to none! See you at the parade!

Advice for Mom’s or a Mom hack you would like to share?  Moms make great public officials! I have met dozens of female Mayors and Council Members who are knocking it out of the park! Moms know how to get the job done without wasting time. We collaborate, prioritize, focus on the tasks at hand, and get results. I hope to see more moms apply for open positions as they come up on our Peachtree City Planning Commission, Convention and Visitors Bureau, Airport Authority, and of course, City Council. Two City Council seats will be vacated, and new Council Members elected in 2023. Just sayin’.

You are setting a wonderful example for the Women of our community. Please feel free to add anything else you wish to share with The Moms of Peachtree City.  In 2021 when I was campaigning, I received suggestions and input from many moms regarding parks, sports fields, library hours, family activities, public safety, the cart paths, and dozens more topics. Your input matters! I can be reached at [email protected] or (770) 826-6707 and I love hearing from you.
