Q&A

Melanie, what is your background? Tell us about your career.

Growing up in Fayetteville, Georgia, I was fortunate to have parents who instilled in me a strong work ethic and the belief that I should never give up on my dreams. From a young age, I developed an entrepreneurial spirit, always eager to explore new opportunities. It’s funny to think about the diverse paths I’ve taken in my journey. I’ve dabbled in various fields, from attending HVAC tech classes to becoming a fabric specialist for interior design. Eventually, I found myself working for the family business, where I learned to be resilient and handle any challenges that life throws my way.

Throughout my life, I’ve always had an adventurous soul, constantly seeking new experiences and opportunities. It was during one fateful night that the idea of becoming a jewelry designer came to me in a dream. I woke up inspired and immediately sketched my first piece for the Mèlanie D collection. This marked the beginning of my journey as a jewelry designer.

Driven by my passion, I decided to take it a step further and started Southern Woman Magazine. This venture allowed me to showcase not only my own designs but also celebrate the stories and achievements of other remarkable women in the South.

Overall, my background is a testament to the values instilled in me by my parents, the diverse experiences I’ve embraced, and the dreams I’ve pursued. I believe that with hard work, determination, and a touch of creativity, anything is possible.

But it wasn’t just the allure of jewelry that called me; it was the desire to celebrate the incredible spirit of Southern women that ignited a fire within me. Growing up in the South, I witnessed firsthand the strength, resilience, and unwavering grace that these women exuded. What is your favorite “mom hack”?

Being a mama is a beautiful journey filled with love, laughter, and sometimes a little chaos. I love every moment being Christian’s mama! Keeping a stash of pre-portioned snacks on hand when I get my little guy from school. As he is going through the pre-teen stage he is always hungry! Haha!

I also like to Meal prep and plan out the week before Monday arrives. That has saved me precious time in the morning rush. It’s like having an extra hour of sleep

I am a believer that all mamas need to take care of theirselves too! Sneak in some “me time” during bedtime. Whether it’s reading a book, taking a bubble bath, or indulging in your favorite show, recharge those batteries, mamas!
