Meet A Mom - Joanna Chipman of Haven Health - Peachtree City Moms

Meet Joanna Chipman, a Naturopath with experience in emergency medicine, dedicated to uncovering the root causes of health issues and empowering the body’s natural healing abilities and the Founder of Haven Health. She is also Mom to her six sons Connor, Jesse, Beckett, Austin, Landry, and Evan and her youngest (a girl!), Adalynn). Joanna grew up in the Peachtree City area and recently moved back with her Husband and they now reside in Tyrone. In our Q&A with Joanna, she shares her journey into opening “a practice where I was able to truly walk alongside my clients and empower them to live their healthiest life possible.”

What is your background? Tell us about your career.

I began working as a doula and a prenatal/postpartum fitness specialist. I’ve been in this season of motherhood for more than a decade now and I wanted to be able to serve other mamas the way I would want to be served. From there, I trained and moved into emergency medicine and worked as an EMT on a Grady ambulance and as a tech in the Piedmont emergency department.

What called you to begin Haven Health?

It was during my time in emergency medicine that I realized that we would see the same patients in the emergency room over and over again for the same reason. Our medical culture isn’t set up to be able to help patients make the necessary daily lifestyle changes needed to be able to improve their chronic conditions and truly feel well. I went back to school while working so that I could open a practice where I was able to truly walk alongside my clients and empower them to live their healthiest life possible.

Tell us about some of the services you offer.

Initially, clients come in for a wellness visit. During this visit I run urine and saliva samples that tell us how well the body is detoxing and using what we are fueling it with. I also run a BioEnergetic scan for every client at this visit; this tells us what their body is dealing with at an energetic level and alerts us to possible root causes. From there we can pursue lab testing if needed. But ultimately the goal is to determine the root cause of the symptoms the client is experiencing, rid the body of toxins, and nourish and fuel the body adequately and properly. All of this is done with a natural mindset without medications and prescriptions. I’ve recently added the option for established clients to book an “acute care visit” – which focuses on supporting the body holistically and naturally through illness. Occasionally, I will still take on a client as a doula and I focus heavily on helping mama prepare her body to have a smooth and beautiful labor and delivery. And since emergency medicine is something I still dearly love and I believe it’s important for people to feel confident when an emergency arises, I have begun instructing certifying CPR & First Aid classes.

What is the best thing you love about your job?

The community we’re building. Meeting new people, getting to watch them not only feel better but also feel confident that they know how to take care of their body, and creating an environment where people feel truly cared for.

What is your best “working mom” tip?

Be intentional with family time. Especially starting my own practice, the work never ends. But from dinner to the kids’ bedtime is family time and I put work away to focus on my family. I’m never going to wish I had spent more time at work and less time with my kids.

What is your favorite “mom hack”?

Ooh…I don’t feel like I have one! With 7 kids under the age of 11 everything feels like survival mode! Probably the thing I feel makes our life run the smoothest in this season is grocery pickup.

What do you love about Peachtree City and the surrounding areas?

I lived here in high school and we recently moved back to the area in 2020. So it’s been fun to introduce my kids to all the places and things I enjoyed. A perfect Saturday morning for us would be grabbing drinks at a coffee shop and then walking or taking a golf cart to the farmers’ market.

What TV show are you loving right now? Book? Movie? Podcast?

Does college football count? Everyone at my house is pretty excited for that to start soon. But I’m really loving podcasts in this season. Fertility Friday and The Doctor’s Farmacy are good ones and GraceLaced is one I listen to for encouragement.

Is there anything else you would like to share with our Moms?

Natural health advice is over-abundant on social media right now. It can be overwhelming knowing where to start. It’s important to just focus on one thing at a time. You don’t need to throw out all of your toxic cleaning supplies and change your whole diet and start making your own sourdough tomorrow. Pick one feasible change and start there. When it’s become a habit, pick another thing. Small feasible changes over time make the most lasting impact.
