Q&A
What is your background? Tell us about your career. I was a physics teacher for numerous years and enjoyed not only being able to teach a tough course but to break it apart with real-life examples. However, my favorite part of teaching was connecting with students who were passionate about how physics related to other courses and aspects of their lives. I was drawn to the field of physics because it explains the world around us. I loved it when students could understand why something happened that they had witnessed occurring their entire lives. Fast forward to now, and I strive to build the same type of relationships with the members of my Alloy studio. Our workouts focus on functional movements, are full body, and include 2-3 minutes of working in your higher heart rate zones. These key components lead to better recovery and ensure that even busy adults can find a day and time to work out and see results. I can also explain why we do certain exercises and how they help improve someone’s golf or pickleball game. And let’s not forget my love of data and explaining grip strength to new members and its importance in our lives at every age.

What called you to become to open Alloy Personal Training PTC? I have always loved the feeling I get after a good workout. I also know that when I have to work out independently, I find other things to do, and my “scheduled workout” time shrinks. Alloy allows me to set days and times on my calendar and make time for me. I can walk into my workout and have it all planned out for me. My trainers know my strengths, weaknesses, and fitness goals and modify my workout. I have the proper space to do the workout and feel I fit in with those working out beside me. I have never felt intimidated or pressured by other people in the studio. I love the people that are in my sessions. We share our stories of vacations, work, family, and random thoughts. We can talk to each other as we rest between lifting sets and motivate each other to reach our potential. I leave my workout feeling accomplished and ready to tackle the day. My workout buddies tell me that I inspire them to try a heavier weight or attempt a challenging version of the exercise we are doing. As a female, I know we have not always been told we can be strong, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. One of my workout partners is Dale, and she is 74 years young. When she first started at Alloy, she could not get off the ground on her own. The last workout I did with her, she did 45-second side planks with me and had a smile on her face the whole time. So, while she might think I motivate her, she inspires me regarding how resilient and strong our bodies are if we provide them with the proper care and consistent routine.
Can you share a breakdown of the personal training services you all provide? Alloy is the expert in small group personal training, which for us is six members or less in the studio for a given session. That is all we offer at our studio, Monday – Saturday. We know that people new to strength training, those getting back into a consistent routine, or with a past injury must focus on their form first and then increase weight if needed. We coach our members to understand that finding the sweet spot in a lifting set can come from a heavier weight or slowing down their tempo. We also explain the body’s recovery process, and having a day or two between strength training days with a walk or stretching is a great way to ensure that your body is ready to work to its fullest. Another aspect of Alloy that I feel is very beneficial to members is the InBody scan they complete each month, along with an InGrip test to measure their grip strength. The InBody machine prints out a whole report showing their body composition. It allows us to discuss their quantities of muscle mass and body fat percentage, visceral fat, and basal metabolic rate. We focus on the long-term gains and not the short-term goals with our members.

What is the best thing about your job? I enjoy listening to people’s stories about why they want to improve their health through exercise. No two people are the same, so our workouts are different for each member. Everyone has their own reason and motivation for being healthy. It makes me so happy to see the smiles on the member’s faces when they enter the studio, between strength training sets, and at the end of the workout. As a person who invests in others, I love hearing about their successes and milestones, whether big or small. It is also a great source of pride to see members cheering for each other during a set or the finisher. As adults, we do not always get to celebrate the little things that occur in our day-to-day lives. But I think about how much those high fives meant to me when I was a child, and I don’t think we ever outgrow the excitement we feel when someone recognizes our achievements.

What do you love about Peachtree City and the surrounding areas? I was attracted to Peachtree City because of its close-knit community. I also love how unique it is with all the golf cart paths and golf cart parking spaces. As a family that loves to travel, we like the fact that PTC is close enough to the airport that we can drive there for a quick weekend getaway or an extended journey.
What TV show are you loving right now? Book? Movie? Podcast?
Book = Revenge of the Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell
TV show = Elsbeth
Is there anything else you would like to share with our Moms? My fitness goal is to run a half marathon in all 50 states. As of the end of 2024, I have completed 17 states and am registered for several more in 2025. I am not a fast runner, but I enjoy the challenge of running for a couple of hours, meeting people who have a similar competitive spirit, and seeing new places in the US.
Another one of my hobbies is putting together Stave puzzles. We usually join their rental program to get a new puzzle a few months during the year.
