10 STEP GUIDE…

To creating and actually keeping your New Year’s resolutions—focused on progress, not perfection:

How to Create & Keep Your New Year’s Resolutions (10 Steps)

1. Reflect before you set

Look back on the past year. What worked? What drained you? Strong resolutions are built from honest reflection, not pressure.

2. Choose meaning over trends

Pick goals that truly matter to you—not what’s popular or expected. If the goal has emotional relevance, you’ll stick with it longer.

3. Be specific and measurable

Vague goals fade fast. Replace “get healthier” with “walk 30 minutes, 4x a week.”

4. Limit your list

Focus on 1–3 core resolutions. Too many goals create burnout and decision fatigue.

5. Break goals into small actions

Big goals feel overwhelming. Define the first tiny step you can start this week.

6. Attach habits to your routine

Tie your goal to something you already do (after coffee, before bed, after school drop-off, etc.).

7. Plan for obstacles

Expect life to happen. Decide in advance what you’ll do when motivation dips or schedules change.

8. Track progress visibly

Use a planner, notes app, or habit tracker. Seeing progress keeps momentum alive.

9. Give yourself grace—not excuses

Consistency matters more than perfection. Miss a day? Reset the next one—no guilt spiral.

10. Revisit and adjust monthly

Check in once a month. Refine goals as needed so they still fit your life and season.

Remember: Resolutions aren’t about becoming someone new—they’re about supporting the person you already are.
