Meet A Designer - Kate Dague Sherfinski! - Peachtree City Moms

Meet Kate Dague Sherfinski, Founder of Kate Dague Interior Design and Mom to daughter, Katelynn. She and her Husband, Scott, currently residing just outside of Brooks, are also brand new grandparents to their first Grandson, Joshua and couldn’t be more excited to be Pops and Lovey! In our Q&A below, Kate shares how her love for design began at young age re-designing/decorating her own bedroom. Flash forward to today, Kate Dague Interior Design was recently published in Atlanta HOME Magazine’s Spring 2024 edition with a generous eight page spread! Read below to learn about  the design services Kate and her team, (her Assistant Designer, daughter Katelynn Eubanks and her Associate Designer, Claire Lewis) offer along with Kate’s favorite Mom Hack.

What is your background? Tell us about your career.

I started Kate Dague Interiors 25 years ago,and have been designing ever since. I began with small projects drawing floor plans, selecting furniture, rugs, window treatments and accessories. As my business continued to grow, I took on more complete home renovations, along with countless kitchen and bath remodels, but my true passion is probably in new construction. I love to start from the beginning and create a space that has continuity and elevated design.

The Kate Dague Interiors family has continued to grow through the years with an Associate Designer, Claire Lewis, who is tremendously creative and keeps me on task. And just this year, I hired my daughter, Katelynn Eubanks, as my design assistant. Probably one of the most recent career boosts that I’m thrilled about was being published in Atlanta HOME Magazine’s Spring 2024 edition with a generous eight page spread of a home we had the privilege of curating each selection from ground up to all the finishing touches.

What called you to become an Interior Designer?

When I was young, my mom often allowed me to change up my room.  We would rearrange the furniture and every few years we would change the paint color or add wallpaper.  She would give me the freedom to choose. I’m sure she guided me, but I felt that I was decorating my space on my own. I’ll never forget how it felt each time to fall asleep in my newly decorated bedroom.  I loved it.  As a young adult, I loved to create and design my home and help my friends with their homes. So, it seems it was a calling from a young age, and I love it as much or more today.

What type of services do you provide?

Kate Dague Interiors is a full service, luxury design firm that provides design services from paint selections, floor plans, furniture, art, rugs, window treatments and lighting along with all the finishing touches.  We love a good renovation project, and of course new construction.  We want to learn your design style and create the space of your dreams. We specialize in handling all the details, so you don’t have to stress. In addition to our full service options, we can provide a more consultative resource that may better suit your needs.

What is the best thing about your job?

I have been blessed with so many amazing clients that trust me to create the space of their dreams.  I would say the best part of the job is getting to see my clients experience the “big reveal” at the end of a project.  I love watching their excitement when seeing the designs come to life.

What is your favorite “mom” hack”?

Make time for date nights, girls nights and rest. We all need a break to recharge.

What do you love about Peachtree City and the surrounding areas?

We love the Peachtree City area for its many resources that we use at Kate Dague Interiors. Traditions in Tile, DeBeers, Premier Blinds and Designs, Circa Antiques just to name a few.  Also, on a personal note, my husband and I enjoy a lunch date most Saturdays, and there are so many little restaurant gems that we frequent. Nothing’s better than a cocktail and lunch on a leisurely Saturday afternoon.

What TV show are you loving right now? Book? Movie? Podcast?

I love a good television series. Usually my husband and I are watching a series or two together, and I’ll have one or more that I’ll watch on my own. Right now we are watching Tulsa King and Only Murders in the Building together. We just finished The Bear. It was great, but very intense. I’m rewatching Suits and Big Little Lies. Don’t hate me, but I will also watch a few of the Bravo housewives shows. It’s a guilty pleasure. People ask me all the time what my favorite HG television show would be, and honestly after designing all day the last thing that I want to watch is more design. I prefer something that distracts me from work.

I’m not a huge reader. I wish I were. I have friends that can devour a book in a day.  That’s not me. It might be because I tend to pick up self-help books more than novels. Right now I’m reading Do The New You by Steven Furtick.

As far as Podcasts go….I keep trying to remember to listen to one while driving. The one I probably listen to the most would be LuAnn Nigara’s A Well Designed Business, but I need to look for something light hearted for entertainment purposes.

Is there anything else you would like to share with our Moms?

First, I think the most important thing that I could share in regards to design and your home… Create a space that is unique to you and your tastes, and don’t worry about what’s trending. Timeless design is being surrounded with the things you love, placed just so, so that they give you a sense of peace and comfort.

Secondly, give yourself some slack. Moms are so busy. If everything in your home isn’t perfect, that’s not what your children will remember. They will remember how you loved and nurtured them much more than how perfect your living room looks.
