Moms – all of you are rockstars. You do it all…and then some more. Dropping your kids off at school, or putting them on the bus, after a full morning of getting everyone ready, making breakfast for your whole family, making sure homework is done, and packing up backpacks and lunch boxes. I mean, you probably feel like you have experienced a full day of work before 9am. I know how you feel and I wanted to let you know that you are doing an amazing job.
When you have your kids with you, it can be a ton of fun, but it can also be a lot more work. Instead of taking care of your errands and taking care of yourself, you put everything on the backburner to take care of your kids, instead. With that being said, there are some things that you absolutely need to do…and that is why I suggest being intentional about the time you have without your kids. Right now, you have a few more weeks to tackle your massive to-do list before Thanksgiving break. No time to dilly dally! Here’s a list (to start with, at least – I’m sure you have more) of things to check off your list before Thanksgiving break. If you get everything done, you will be able to spend quality time with your family, without the stress of needing to do 100 things with your kids in tow. Here you go:
Self-care
Like I mentioned above, self-care can be very challenging to do when your kids are with you. Take time while your kids are in school to focus 100% on yourself. Book a spa day, hire a personal trainer (or visit your gym), sleep in late, if possible, take a nap, binge your favorite Netflix show or movie, or cuddle up under a blanket with hot tea and your favorite book during school hours. There are so many ways that you can give yourself that extra love and care that you need. I recommend making sure that you do all of this and more close to Thanksgiving. That way, your stress levels will be very low (hopefully) and you can focus on your family, without the stress and depletion.
Tidying up and organizing the house
I recently saw an Instagram video where a mom was cleaning up and a toddler was running behind them throwing things all over the floor. Sometimes as a parent, it can feel like you are drowning in waves because you are never able to keep up when it comes to keeping your house clean. While you definitely do not have to do it all (quality time is definitely more important than a clean house!), I do recommend that you try to do your cleaning during school hours, if possible. This will ensure that you are not “drowning” as you are cleaning. You do what you can, without the stress, and then you re-evaluate the next day. No stress here! Doing this during school hours will make it much easier and faster on you – trust me.
Fine tune your guest list and menu for Thanksgiving
If you are having a Thanksgiving get together with your family, now is the time to fine tune your guest list and your menu for Thanksgiving. Sometimes, this requires a little brain power, and it’s easier to really think everything out when you have some peace and quiet. Take advantage of your kids being in school and knock this out so that you don’t have to stress about it later on!
Any errands that you prefer to do without kids in tow
Are there any appointments that you need to make? Any errands that you need to run? Some things are just better done without kids in tow, so make sure you do it all before Thanksgiving break. Go to any doctor’s appointments, get your teeth cleaned, and if you are traveling for Thanksgiving break, make sure to get your car serviced beforehand. Start on your New Year’s resolutions
Sit down and think through your year. What did you accomplish? What could you have done more of? While you think about that, write down everything that you loved about your year. Do you see what you accomplished? Now, looking through it, what do you want to see more of in the year to come? Write it all down. What do you need more of? Write it down. Use these lists to create your New Year’s resolutions. Doing it before Thanksgiving break will give you a lot of time to really think it through and make a list that is intentional, and not just thrown together at the very last minute.
There are so many things to check off your list, but this is a great place to start! What do you need to get done before Thanksgiving break?
